Sheehy Wins Coach of the Year Accolades

OKLAHOMA CITY (February 26, 2013) - After leading his team to the program's most successful regular season to date, head men's basketball coach Clark Sheehy was named the Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, the conference office announced Monday morning.

"We are very thankful to Clark for his leadership of the men's basketball team," said Director of Athletics Robyn Daugherty. "Clark is a man of integrity and character. His commitment to excellence on and off the court is second to none, as he has a strong desire to see these young men grow in all areas of life during their time at John Brown. We are very proud of what Clark and his team have accomplished this year.

"As Clark always says, 'It’s a great time to be a Golden Eagle!'"

Sheehy, a native of Siloam Springs and a former Golden Eagle basketball player, guided the men to their first-ever SAC regular season championship, finishing with a record of 14-2 in conference play. John Brown features a 5-2 record against top-25 competition this season, one of the best marks in the nation.

"It really is an incredible honor," admitted Sheehy. "There are many great coaches in our conference, and their nomination is really a blessing. Ultimately, this award is a reflection of my assistant coaches, Aaron Niven and Justin Ritz, as well as the players and their hard work. They're the ones that made this possible."

The Golden Eagles have enjoyed its highest ranking in program history this season, featured at the No. 3 spot in the ninth edition of the NAIA National Coaches' Poll. John Brown was also spotlighted as the NAIA National Game of the Week twice this season, both against rival Oklahoma Baptist. Each team won on the road, both times upsetting the higher-ranked team on its home court.

Sheehy, currently in his seventh season at the helm of the men's basketball squad, has amassed 130 victories and only 64 losses during his tenure as head coach, notching a .670 win percentage.
