Shooting Woes Plague Golden Eagles in Season-Ending Loss to Oklahoma City
SHAWNEE, Okla. (March 1, 2013) - The fourth-seeded Golden Eagles (13-17) only managed nine field goals and shot just 20.9 percent from the field, falling to top-seeded and national No. 2 Oklahoma City (26-2) on Friday afternoon, 58-34, closing its season at Mabee Arena.
Junior guard Sierra Shipley paced the Golden Eagle offense, landing a team-high 10 points and six rebounds. Junior center Kami Garrison chipped in with five points, while sophomore forwards Morgan Ankrom and Abbie Warren each chipped in with four points. Senior guard Anna Parish netted two points and a team-high three assists in her last collegiate contest.
Both teams shot poorly in the first half, playing into the Golden Eagle plan of attack. John Brown limited the hot-shooting Stars to just 26 first-stanza points on 9-of-29 shooting from the floor. JBU responded with a 5-of-20 effort, facing a 26-16 halftime deficit.
Oklahoma City used an 18-2 run over the first 7:10 of the first half, holding the Golden Eagles to just a single field goal, placing the game out of reach, 44-18.
Although John Brown outscored OCU 16-14 over the final 12:50 of the contest, the hurdle was too high to overcome as the Golden Eagles fell, 58-34, in the Sooner Athletic Conference semifinals.
Parish finished her career with over 800 points and 300 assists, shooting 84.5 percent from the free throw line, finishing first in the nation in her season campaign, converting from the charity stripe at a 93.3 percent clip.
