Society of Illustrators Exhibit Returns to JBU

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (April 1, 2014) - The Society of Illustrators “Illustrators 55” opens in the John Brown University Art Gallery April 3, with a reception from 6-7:30 p.m. The exhibit is a collection of 40 works selected from the Society of Illustrators’ Annual Exhibition representing the best illustrations executed last year.

“The Annual Exhibition has been offered to colleges for the past 32 years and we are thrilled to again host this amazing exhibit of the best of the best in the field of illustration” said Charles Peer, director of the JBU Department of Visual Arts Gallery. “It encompasses a wide variety of styles and techniques, exploring the endless possibilities for illustrative work.”

The works, selected from the thousands of entries submitted worldwide, represent the best in the annual competition’s seven categories: Sequential/Series, Editorial, Book, Advertising, Institutional, Uncommissioned and Moving Image. All 40 works were featured in the juried Illustrators 55 Annual Exhibition at the Museum of American Illustration in New York in 2013. Some of the featured artists are Anna & Elena Balbusso, Marc Burckhardt, Jonathan Burton, Harry Campbell, Joseph Ciardiello and Kali Ciesemier.

The gallery is located in the Windgate Visual Arts West building on the John Brown University campus in Siloam Springs.

The exhibit will run April 4 through May 5 and is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 2-4 p.m. on Sunday or by special arrangement. For further information, or to make arrangements for a group visit, contact Jeannie Abbott at (479) 238-8561.
