Statement on the death of George Floyd

The senseless and brutal death of George Floyd is another sobering reminder that the sin of racial injustice continues to persist in our nation. We are deeply grieved at the unjust loss of life and the continued pain of the black community. While we do not believe that further violence should be the means to achieve justice, we lament with our brothers and sisters in Christ and indeed long for justice. With the historical patterns of mistrust, injustice and oppression that reflect the deep brokenness of human beings, these conversations are difficult and painful. However, we continue to work toward healing and reconciliation with the hope that someday we will all be counted among the “great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb” (Revelation 7:9 ESV).
