Toilet Paper Game to be Featured on CBS

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (April 5, 2013) - One of college basketball’s most beloved traditions will again be featured in the national spotlight as John Brown University’s annual Toilet Paper Game has been selected to the “Coke Presents 75 Years of Fandemonium” program, set to air prior to the NCAA I Final Four® games on the afternoon of Saturday, April 6.

“What an honor to be included on this show,” said Robyn Daugherty, Director of Athletics. “Our TP Game tradition is so unique and rich; we are very excited to receive the national publicity on CBS. This tradition brings so much great exposure to John Brown University and to our athletics department.”

In 2012, John Brown and the community celebrated the 32nd annual game as the Golden Eagles defeated Hillsdale Freewill Baptist (Okla.), 65-48. The tradition, now in its third decade, is celebrated by fans packing out the Bill George Arena and then throwing rolls of toilet paper onto the court after the Golden Eagles notch its first successful field goal. Despite the tradition that results in a technical foul and two free throws awarded to the visiting team, John Brown University has embraced this phenomenon that has received publicity around the world.

“This is an incredible opportunity for the John Brown community to be showcased around the country,” added Nicholas Robinson, Director of Sports Information. “The NCAA is celebrating its 75th anniversary of college basketball, and to be included in the conversation of the best all-time fan traditions on network television is such an honor.

"I hope that the TP Game tradition continues to stir conversations regarding John Brown’s excellence in athletics, in addition to the incredible academic reputation of the institution.”

The 30-minute special segment is set to air on CBS at 2:00 p.m. CST on Saturday, April 6.
