Uzelac, Coney Help Cross Country to Strong Finishes in Clarksville

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. (October 10, 2015) -- For the third-consecutive meet, freshmen Josh Uzelac and Carly Coney set a new personal records, helping the John Brown men’s cross country team grab second place and the women’s team post a fourth-place finish at the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 10).

Harding (Ark.) won both the men’s and women’s titles. The Bison posted a 1:37:49 time on the women’s side while notching a 2:08:58 finish on the men’s. The Golden Eagle men finished just seven minutes behind as a team (2:15:33) to capture its highest finish of the season and its fastest team time. The women finished in a time of 1:42:53, missing out on second place by just over a minute. The finish was JBU’s second-fastest time of the season.

Uzelac posted a 25:59.5 time to set a new personal record. The freshman lead for over four miles of the race and crossed the finish line in 5th, the highest finish of his career. Junior Levi Nordmeyer finished with a 26:53.2 time, landing a 12th-place mark, and a new personal record. Sophomore Jake Braschler joined the PR team with his 27:25.0 mark, capturing 18th place overall. Freshman Michael Games set a personal record with a 27:33.9 mark to finish in 20th place and senior Kenny Crane rounded out the top five runners with a 23rd-place finish and a time of 27:41.2.

On the ladies’ side, Coney captured the top Golden Eagle time for the third time in four meets this year. The freshman bettered her last time by 22 seconds and set a PR of 20:01.3 to finish 12th overall. Freshman Reagan Roth landed a 16th-place finish with a 20:28.5 time while sophomore Kaitlyn Collier nabbed her new personal record, crossing the finish line at 20:39.0 and finishing in 20th overall. Freshman Tori Kraft finished in 23rd place with a time of 20:49.6 and sophomore Annie Brown posted her best time of 2015, a 20:54.6 mark and a 24th-place finish.

The Golden Eagles will now rest until Friday (Oct. 16) when the squads will travel to Wilmington, Ohio, to compete in Wilmington College’s #JennaStrong Invitational, set to begin in the evening.
