Uzelac captures second-ever SAC Runner of the Week honors

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- For the second time in his career, and only the third time in program history, sophomore Josh Uzelac has claimed this week's Sooner Athletic Runner of the Week honors, the conference offices announced Monday (Oct. 10) afternoon.

For the third-straight week, Uzelac improved his time and in back-to-back weeks set a new program record, since the team's rebirth in 2008.

"Josh keeps putting in the work, and the results are reflecting those efforts," said head coach Scott Schochler. "I love watching him race because he is absolutely fearless. As well as he has performed up to this point, I still think he is going to continue to get faster."

Two weeks ago, Uzelac handed in a time of 25:40 at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., but this week he improved again at the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) Invitational, crossing the finish line at 25:33, while capturing third place overall. His time helped cement a second-place finish for the men's cross country program.

"Josh is an incredible young man who leads our team well, both in workouts and races," Schochler added. "The great thing about Josh is he is even more impressive outside of the field of competition: working, being a strong student, and being involved in his church. He is a great example of what a student-athlete can be."

Marcos Gutierrez ('14) was the last and only SAC weekly award recipient.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday (Oct. 14) in Wilmington, Ohio to run the #JennaStrong Fall Classic.
