Uzelac sets new program record, lands consecutive SAC honors

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- For the first time in in program history, a John Brown University men's cross country runner was named Sooner Athletic Runner of the Week, finally accomplished by sophomore Josh Uzelac, conference offices announced Monday (Oct. 17) afternoon.

Uzelac led John Brown to a 12th-place finish on Friday (Oct. 14) at the #JennaStrong Fall Classic in Wilmington, Ohio, by covering the 8,000-meter distance in a time of 25:19.

Not only did Uzelac set a PR for the fourth-straight week, Uzelac also set a new current-era program record (since 2008) and now currently owns seven of the top 10 spots in program history since the squad was rebooted eight years ago.

"Josh continues to race aggressively and put himself into a position to compete at the front of races," noted head coach Scott Schochler. "He is a great leader for the program, and I am confident he is going to get even faster. He works and competes with incredible intensity."

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday (Oct. 21) in Winfield, Kan., to race in the NAIA Midstates Classic, hosted by Southwestern (Kan.)
