Volleyball Earns Second-Consecutive AVCA Team Academic Award Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. (August 7, 2013) - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that John Brown University is one of 45 NAIA volleyball programs to earn the Team Academic Award, the Golden Eagles' second-consecutive year earning such an accolade.

JBU was the only institution from the Sooner Athletic Conference to garner the award.

"I'm very proud of the effort the ladies put into the classroom this past season," said head coach Stacie Johnson. "To be one of only 45 programs in the NAIA to get the award shows how difficult, as a team, it is to achieve such high standards."

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Led by senior NAIA Scholar-Athletes Erin Didier and Aubrey Adams, the volleyball program paced all Golden Eagle teams in 2012-13 with an overall 3.42 GPA.

The AVCA once again head a record-breaking year as 622 teams across all classifications earned the Team Academic Award, breaking the previous year's total of 536 and sets a new all-time high for the award.

The Golden Eagles finished the 2012-13 campaign with an overall record of 22-16 and open the 2013-14 season in Siloam Springs on Saturday, Aug. 24, when JBU hosts Benedictine (Kan.) and Lyon (Ark.) in a tri-match before playing 14 of its next 15 matches away from Bill George Arena.
