WORLD-RENOWNED NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC PHOTOGRAPHER SPEAKS AT JBU

Siloam Springs, Ark. (Feb. 2, 2015) - World-renowned National Geographic photographer and journalist Sam Abell will speak at John Brown University on Saturday, February 7th at 3:00 p.m. in the Berry Performing Arts Center. 

“It is incredibly valuable for our students to hear from giants in the field like Mr. Abell” said Neal Holland, associate professor of visual arts. “Mr. Abell offers inspiration not just to our aspiring photographers but to anyone interested in pursuing their passion with excellence.”

Abell's thirty-year career has been dedicated to the photography of cultural landscape, capturing the unique relationship between humankind and the natural world. In addition to photography, he has authored numerous books including The Life of a Photograph, Seeing Gardens and The Photographic Life

In 2002, Abell collaborated with Leah Bendavid-Val on a retrospective of his life entitled Sam Abell: The Photographic Life, published by Rizzoli. His most recent book Amazonia (2010) coincided with a traveling exhibition of images organized by the University of Oregon Art Museum. Abell is a member of the board of the directors of the Santa Fe Center For Photography, the George Eastman House, and the University of Virginia Art Museum and

This presentation is made possible through a partnership with John Brown University’s Department of Photography, Bedford Camera and Video and The Canon DLC program: Photographers of Light.
