Weber wraps up first-career SAC weekly honors

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- After notching six points and tying a six-year old record, junior Samantha Weber was named this week's Sooner Athletic Defensive Player of the Week honors, the conference offices announced Monday (Oct. 3) afternoon.

It was Weber's first-career weekly honor by the Sooner Athletic Conference.

In a lopsided 15-0 win at Bacone (Okla.) on Saturday (Oct. 1), in which numerous team and individual records either fell or were matched, Weber tallied up one goal and four assists (six points). Weber's lone goal came in the 40th minute and made the game 5-0, closing out the scoring in the first half. She racked up two assists in each stanza.

Additionally, Weber was part of a back line that helped senior Kristen Morency pitch a pair of shutout efforts, including a 1-0 win at Mid-America Christian (Okla.) on Wednesday (Sept. 28). Weber and the back line allowed just six shots towards the JBU goal over both matches, only four of which required a Morency save.

The Golden Eagles (8-1-1) still sit atop the SAC table and await its new national ranking, which the NAIA is set to release on Tuesday (Oct. 4) afternoon.

John Brown returns to action on Tuesday evening, hosting long-time rival, Oklahoma City, at Alumni Field at 5 p.m.
