World-Renowned National Geographic Photographer to Speak at JBU

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (October 23, 2014) -  

World-renowned National Geographic photographer and journalist Sam Abell will speak at John Brown University on Saturday, Nov., 1 at 3:00 p.m. in the Simmons Great Hall.

Abell's thirty-year career has been dedicated to achieving artistic expression through documentary photography, while maintaining a career as an artist, teacher and author. He works primarily with the photography of cultural landscape.

In 1990, Abell's work was the subject of a one-man exhibition at the International Center of Photography in New York City. A companion book, “Stay This Moment,” was published at that time. In 2002 he collaborated with Leah Bendavid-Val on a retrospective of his life and work titled “Sam Abell:The Photographic Life,” published by Rizzoli. He is also the author of the book “Seeing Gardens.”

This presentation is provided through partnership with John Brown University’s Department of Photography, Bedford Camera and Video and The Canon DLC program: Photographers of Light.
