‘Champion Trees of Arkansas: An Artist’s Journey’ Coming to JBU Art Gallery

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (November 5, 2013) - Color pencil artist Linda Williams Palmer will display her work in the upcoming exhibit, “Champion Trees of Arkansas: An Artist’s Journey” in the JBU Windgate Visual Arts West Gallery. The exhibit will open with a reception on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 6:00 -7:30 p.m. and will feature a gallery talk by the artist at 6:30 p.m.

“We are excited to present the artwork of Hot Springs artist Linda Williams Palmer on the JBU campus,” said Charles Peer, director of the JBU Visual Arts Department Gallery. “Palmer’s colored pencil drawings demonstrate the best of a medium we are all so familiar with and take it to an extraordinary level. It is a great exhibit appropriate for everyone; children, families, students, teachers, and artists.”

Palmer’s work has been recognized by the Color Pencil Society of America and has been selected for many juried exhibitions across the U.S. and in Europe. The exhibit includes 18 large colored pencil drawings of champion trees accompanied by detail drawings of foliage, documentary photographs of depicted trees, and informative text panels that share the artist’s perspective. Palmer developed the champion trees series over a period of five years, driving approximately 5,000 miles to document her selection.

An Arkansas Champion Tree status is awarded to the largest documented living specimens of each tree variety found in the state.

The exhibit will be on display Nov. 8 through Dec. 17. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sunday 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. or by special arrangement. The gallery will be closed for the Thanksgiving holidays, Nov. 27-Dec. 1. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
