‘Scribes of Hope II' Art Exhibit Features Calligraphers
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (September 30, 2013) - John Brown University’s art gallery welcomes the Christians in the Visual Art’s traveling exhibit entitled “Scribes of Hope II.”
The collection of artwork by 31 calligraphers crosses a wide range of approaches to this time-honored art of expressing the word of God in creative art forms. Techniques include traditional letting and illuminating, books and letterpress work, and hand-made letters digitally scanned for further alterations.
The exhibit was curated by the internationally known calligrapher Timothy Botts, who has was a guest of the JBU Visual Arts Department in 2003 and created a calligraphy piece especially for the department, which currently hangs in the department lobby.
“It is quite an honor to be able to present an exhibit of this importance and we believe that this show will be of special interest to many groups so we are making special arrangement to have the gallery open for all groups who wish to see the collection,” Charles Peer, gallery director and faculty member.
“Scribes of Hope II” will open Thursday evening, Oct. 3, with a reception from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the John Brown University Art Gallery in Windgate Visual Arts West building. The exhibit will run Oct. 4 through Nov. 1 and is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday by special arrangement.
