Galliguez and Rakestraw earn Academic All-District honors

Siloam Springs, Arkansas (February 7, 2012) - JBU men’s basketball players Abel Galliguez of Sugarland, Texas and Coleson Rakestraw of Siloam Springs, Ark. have been named Capital One First-team Academic All-District for the College Division of District IV.

Galliguez, a redshirt-junior and accounting major, has a 3.43 GPA.  He currently is third on the team in scoring with 11.71 points per game and ranks eighth in the nation in total 3-pointers made with 66.  This season, Galliguez increased his career high to 31 points coming against Northwestern Okla. State on Jan. 12.

Rakestraw, a junior engineering major with a 3.93 GPA, has started in every JBU basketball game since his freshman year and is currently the teams’ second leading scorer with 12.17 points per game.  He ranks 11th in the nation in total 3-pointers made on the year with 64 and 10th in 3-point shooting percentage with a 44.8 percent average.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees will advance to the national Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where First, Second and Third Team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.  The Capital One Academic All-America® Team is voted on by the members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
