Men open New Year with blowout

Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 2, 2012) - The No. 20 JBU men crushed St. Gregory’s (Okla.) 81-57 on Monday night in Bill George Arena. The win moves JBU to 11-3 overall and 3-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
SGU, meanwhile, remains winless in the SAC at 3-8 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
Junior Coleson Rakestraw led all scorers with 21 points after going 5-of-9 from downtown. Senior Adrian Miller added 18 points, six rebounds. Senior Andy Garcia picked up a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. And junior Abel Galliguez added 11.
For SGU, Fayzon Rickey also dropped in 21 points after a 7-for-12 shooting performance. Ron Waller finished with 10.
JBU quickly took control and held a 28-15 lead heading into the break. In the second half, things got ugly really fast as the Eagles increased their lead to as many as 23, 40-17, with 17 minutes left in the game.
SGU made a final push and pulled with 13 at the 13:49 mark, but JBU turned up the heat and pushed it back to a 24 point game before closing it out.
For the game, JBU shot 53.2 percent (25-of-47), while holding SGU to 44.4 percent (20-of-45). JBU won the rebounding battle 30-23.
Up next, the men return home on Thursday night to face Mid-America Christian (Okla.) at 8 p.m.
