Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 31, 2011) - Becca Young, a 5-6 defensive specialist/libero from Mount Vernon High School in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, has signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball at John Brown University next fall.

During her career at Mt. Vernon High, Young helped her team win WaMaC Conference titles in 2008, 2009, and 2010.  In 2008, her team was state runner-ups and went on to claim the title in 2009 and again in 2010.  Young was also named Academic All-Conference and Academic All-State in 2010.

Head coach Stacie Johnson said that she is pleased to have Young join the program and expects her to excel at JBU.

“We’re excited to have Becca join the Lady Golden Eagle volleyball family,” said Johnson.  “Having played against some of the top high school players in the country, we expect her to bring a competitive edge to our defense.”

“I chose JBU because it feels like a place I am going to thrive at, and I hope to bring a positive spirit to the team,” added Young.

The daughter of Steven and Mary, Young will join older brothers Nick and Sam, who are also students at JBU.  Nick plays on the rugby club team and Sam is a member of JBU’s men’s cross country squad.
