Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 13, 2010) - The JBU men’s basketball team was geared up for the upset on Saturday night, but the second-ranked Bison of Oklahoma Baptist had other plans as they managed to hold off the Golden Eagles and walk away with the 69-65 win.

With eight seconds left in the game, JBU was down two with a chance to tie or take the lead, but OBU’s Nate Brumfield came up with a steal and was fouled on the other end. Brumfield knocked down both free-throws to help OBU seal the deal.

Brumfield finished with 28 points and eight boards to lead all scorers.

Abel Galliguez finished with 18 points after going 6-of-9 from downtown for the Golden Eagles. Senior Davaughn Jackson finished with 15 and Adrian Miller had 10 points, six rebounds, and six assists.

After being down two at halftime, JBU took an early second half lead after opening the period on a 5-0 run. OBU maintained their composure and regained control after Garrett Steinmetz drained three to put OBU ahead 61-57 with 7:42 left.

JBU continued to fight and tied things up at 65 after a pair of free throws from Jackson with 3:13 remaining in the game.

OBU scored on their next possession to go ahead by two, and after several missed opportunities by both teams, Brumfield’s last second heroics helped OBU clinch the win.

For the game, JBU shot 54.2% from the field while holding OBU to 47.3%. JBU committed 18 turnovers while forcing 13. Both teams grabbed 26 boards.

Now 18-8 overall and 10-8 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, JBU looks ahead to Thursday night when they will face off against Lubbock Christian (Texas) at 8 p.m. in Murray Sells.
