Men drop third straight

Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 7, 2010) - The JBU men’s basketball team came up empty on Thursday night falling 101-82 against conference foe Mid-America Christian (Okla.) at home.

The loss drops the men to 11-4 overall and 3-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. All four JBU losses this year have come against SAC teams.

JBU got 23 points and seven rebounds from senior Davaughn Jackson. Freshman Coleson Rakestraw added 15, and sophomores Abel Galliguez and Adrian Miller posted 12 and 11 points respectively.

MACU (9-5, 5-1) also had four players finish in double digits led by Charlie Shorter’s 23. Cameron Langster put up 20, while Brandon Williams added 14. Darius Gregory rounded out the Evangels’ double figure effort with 11.

After five ties throughout the first half, MACU used a late surge to take a 49-38 lead into the locker rooms.

JBU came out fired up in the second period and opened the half on an 11-3 run to cut the lead to 52-50 with 15:40 left in the game. After trading baskets for the next few possessions, Williams helped MACU push their lead back to six, 63-57, with 12:02 remaining.

At the 7:02 mark, Shorter buried a deep three to give MACU the 73-63 lead after a 10-6 run. But JBU responded with an 8-3 run to come back within five, 76-71, with six minutes remaining in the game.

MACU answered JBU’s attack with an 11-4 run of their own capped off by another deep three from Shorter to push the Evangel lead to 87-75 with 3:44 left.

The Evangels continued to build on their momentum during the closing minutes and walked away with the 19 point victory.

Overall, JBU shot 47 percent from the floor and 33 percent from three-point range. MACU managed to knock down 56 percent of their tries including 52 percent from long range.

MACU crushed JBU on the boards 40-28 and forced JBU into committing 18 turnovers, which included 14 in the first half.

The men look to regroup from their three-game skid when they travel to Oklahoma City to face the Stars on Saturday at 5 p.m.
