Men's soccer stumbles in Missouri

Hannibal, Mo. (September 19, 2009) - The JBU men’s soccer team was looking for its first road win of the year on Saturday afternoon, but Hannibal-LaGrange had other plans as they played spoiler defeating the Golden Eagles 2-1.

JBU (4-3) looked poised for the win after taking a 1-0 lead into the break after juniors Juan Iraola and Gabriel Duarte connected in the 35th minute for Iraola’s sixth goal of the year.

However, HLG (1-3-1) wasn’t done on the day as they fought back to tie things up in the 53rd via Dustin Freitag. Then in the 76th, HLG took the 2-1 lead after Thiago Pereira picked up the assist after feeding Alberto Borrachero for the game winner.

The Golden Eagles were out shot 12-19 in the match, but each team was equal on shots-on-goal with five a piece.

Senior Ryan Helmer picked up two saves in the loss.

JBU remains on the road this Thursday when they travel to Oklahoma Wesleyan for a 5 p.m. bout.
