JBU to add cross country and cheerleading

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 1, 2009) - John Brown University Director of Athletics Robyn Daugherty announced on Monday that JBU will be adding men’s and women’s cross country and cheerleading to the athletics program for the fall of 2010.

"We are excited for the opportunity to increase our sport offerings here at JBU,” said Daugherty. “Currently nine other Sooner Athletic Conference schools offer cross country, so scheduling will not be an issue.”

Daugherty added that with new direction, JBU cheerleading, which was originally formed as a club sport and discontinued in 2005, will be successful.

“With cheerleading being under the supervision of the athletics’ department, we look forward to having a quality cheer program,” said Daugherty. “And with the opening of our new arena in 2010, the cheerleaders will help establish our game atmosphere in this new venue with their presence.”

Coaching searches for both programs will begin this fall.
