Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 17, 2009) - The Lady Golden Eagles were geared up for an upset win over the NAIA’s third ranked Lady Stars of Oklahoma City at home on Saturday night, but in the end, OCU snuck by the ladies and escaped with the 76-69 win.

Junior guard Micaela Cully picked up 21 points and four boards to lead JBU (10-8, 4-6). Season leading scorer sophomore forward Ashley Taylor added 14 and junior forward Lenece Glossett tallied 12.

For OCU (16-1, 7-1), Laura Duncan led the way with a game high 23 points after going 4-of-8 from three-point range.

JBU fell behind early but tied things up at the 11:46 mark after consecutive treys from freshman Kacie Larkin. She finished with seven.

The ladies continued their hot shooting in the first half extending to a 38-29 JBU lead before the half.

The women finished the half 14-of-23 (61%) from the floor including 7-of-10 (70%) from three and 3-of-4 (75%) from the foul line.

In the second half, Taylor gave JBU a fourteen point lead after converting a three-point play at the 18:49 mark.

With 4:20 left, JBU held onto an eight-point, 67-59, cushion after Taylor converted another three-point play. But this would be JBU’s final field goal of the night as the Lady Stars clamped down on defense helping them close out the game on a 17-2 run.

On the night, JBU finished 24-of-46 (52.2%) from the floor including 8-of-15 (53.3%) from long distance. JBU loss the rebounding edge 36-32 and also committed 26 turnovers while only forcing 12.

OCU didn’t fare well in the percentage column only hitting 23-of-61 (37.7%) from the floor and 3-of-14 (21.4%) from three. They did, however, use JBU’s misfortune to their advantage by scoring 23 points off the JBU turnovers.

JBU returns to action at home on Thursday when they take on No. 17 Southern Nazarene (Okla.) in conference action. Game time is 6 p.m.
