Netters Fall in Conferenece Openers

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 29, 2008) - The John Brown University women’s volleyball team opened conference play on the road over the weekend with losses to Lubbock Christian (Texas) and Wayland Baptist (Texas). Against LCU, the women lost in three (18-25, 23-25, 16-25) and fell 2-3 (21-25, 22-25, 33-31, 25-22, 13-15) against WBU.

Individually against LCU, senior Laurae Marty led the team with eight kills while sophomore Amber Wilson earned seven.

Junior Britney Kerns tallied 15 assists, and sophomore Alyssa Hanson picked up 12.

Defensively, junior Shannon Proctor collected 10 digs, while Marty, Wilson, and freshman Kassie Keeter each earned two blocks.

In their game against WBU, sophomore Kirsten Lee earned 16 kills with Wilson close behind with 15.

Hanson led with 28 assists while Kerns picked up 27.

On the defensive end, Proctor picked up 34 digs while senior Aubrey Junker earned 22 to go along with two aces.

Up next, JBU (8-8, 0-2) gears up for their home opener against Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
