“The View from Here” Next Exhibit at JBU

Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 14, 2008) - The work of artist Joel Sheesley will be the next exhibit at the John Brown University Art Gallery. “The View from Here” will be on display from March 26 through April 11. The opening reception with a gallery talk will be held on Friday, March 28 from 6:00-7:30 pm in the Art Building located on JBU’s main campus. In Sheesley’ exhibit “The View from Here” he focuses the audience’s attention downward toward the ground. His paintings narrow the audience’s vision, but also enable the audience to encounter puddles that reflect the sky and even larger worlds. As trees, birds, the moon, and a cosmos of sorts are seen the audience begins to enlarge their field of view. The invitation of metaphor to see one thing within another gives these large paintings in “The View from Here” an intriguing allure. Sheesley lives in the suburbs of Chicago. He teaches art at Wheaton College. His paintings have been exhibited regularly in Chicago and in other cities across the country.
