JBU Hosts CoC Day

Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 5, 2008) - In an effort to teach local students the importance of having good character traits, John Brown University hosted a Champions of Character Day for over 40 elementary students in kindergarten through fifth grade over the weekend.

The students had the opportunity to play with athletes from various sports, take pictures with JBU’s mascot Regal the Eagle, eat free pizza, and get their faces painted. The children and their parents also received free passes to JBU’s basketball doubleheader later that evening.

The highlight of the event came when student representative and junior volleyball player Emily Goodlin spoke to the students about the Champions of Character Core Values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship.

“Overall, the event was successful because we got to proclaim Jesus' name in a glorified way to the students,” said Goodlin. “And we got to put into action, loving our neighbor.” At the end of the day, individual athletes broke into small groups with the kids and gave them the opportunity to ask questions and share more about themselves.
