JBU SIFE Students Appear on National Television

Siloam Springs, Ark. (December 18, 2007) - The JBU Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team were the featured guests on American Talks, a television production of SAFE TV based in Springdale, Ark. Clayton Anderson, JBU student and co-leader of 2008 ADVANCE Guatemala, Mirna Ordonez, graduate student and assistant SIFE director, and Karen Guerrero, JBU student and SIFE Team president, were selected to be on the show to talk about SIFE and other initiatives that JBU students are involved in. "Our JBU SIFE students have done some incredible work all over the world,” said Joe Walenciak, JBU professor and SIFE team advisor. “I am always very proud of them, and I am thankful for this opportunity to showcase just a little bit of their work. They have a passion for serving others, and SIFE lets them turn that into action and make a difference in the world." America Talks is a live call-in program that discusses relevant issues, such as education, current affairs, religion, and culture. Viewers of the show are encouraged to submit questions to the panel, who in turn, answer them on the program through discussion. During the program the group discussed various projects that JBU SIFE has completed in Guatemala. One of the largest has been installing cooking stoves in the rural communities of Guatemala where open fire cooking was common. The stoves help address, health, safety, deforestation, economic, and many other issues. Another large project has been an initiative to give the children from "La Limonada," one of the most violet ghettos in Guatemala, a great Christmas party. The SIFE team will provide the children with personal hygiene items, toys, and activities to lift their spirits and take their mind off of their dire circumstances. John Brown University is a private Christian university, ranked fourth by U.S. News & World Report in the Southern Region. JBU enrolls more than 2,000 students from 42 states and 49 countries.
