Wettengel takes career to Europe

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 4, 2007) - John Brown University’s Ashley Wettengel has begun a professional basketball career after joining Lemvig Basket on Sept. 3 in Denmark. Lemvig is a Danish commune located on the west coast of the Jutland peninsula in west Denmark.

Wettengel, who finished her career at JBU as the eighth leading scorer with 1,340 points, has been playing on a circular tour throughout Europe for several weeks. Although the trip was only supposed to last three weeks, Lemvig Basket’s head coach Thomas Johansen saw Wettengel play and has extended her stay until April.

“We look forward to Ashley Wettengel joining the Lemvig Basket team,” said Johansen. “At 5-11, she can score inside and out and rebound.”

Wettengel plans to begin competition immediately when the team travels to Germany later this week.

Johansen said, "We will leave for Germany on Sept. 7, and Ashley will have two practices with the team before the trip. We hope that everybody will get to know her well and help her get adjusted to the team’s routines.”

Wettengel, who is a native of Bentonville, Ark., played her high school basketball at Bentonville High before coming to John Brown. During her career at John Brown, Wettengel averaged 11 ppg, 5 rpg, and 2.5 apg. She was named SAC Freshman of the Year, and Honorable Mention All-SAC during her sophomore and junior campaigns. Last season she was awarded Second Team All-SAC honors.

In addition to her accolades on the court, Wettengel was also named a two-time NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete.
