JBU SIFE sponsor Recognized as Walton Free Enterprise Fellow

Siloam Springs, Ark (May 30, 2000) - Ms. Charlia Ferreira, instructor of business at JBU, has been named a Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow for the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team as John Brown University. SIFE, active on more than 700 college campuses nationwide encourages students to take what they are learning in the classroom and apply it to real-life situations, such as educational outreach projects to the community.

Under the direction of Ms. Ferreira, the JBU SIFE team presented their educational outreach projects at the 2000 SIFE Regional Exposition and Career Opportunity Fair held in April in Memphis, Tennessee. JBU SIFE was named Regional Champion. Teams were judged on the effectiveness of their projects, creativity, innovation, results of education programs, success in utilizing resources and documentation of activities.

In 1985, the Wal-Mart Foundation created a fellowship for SIFE faculty advisors, which in 1992 was named for Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart Store, Inc. "We are proud of the support and leadership that Ms. Ferriera has provided to the students involved in SIFE. This recognition demonstrates not only her commitment to the university, community, and students but reflects the expertise and quality of all our faculty," said Dr. Joe Walenciak, division chair and professor of business.

SIFE partners with business and higher education to provide students the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills through learning, practicing and modeling the principles of free enterprise.

John Brown University is a private university providing Christ-centered higher education to over 1,500 students from over 47 states and 33 countries.
