JBU Men's Conference Woes Continue

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 7, 2006) - A first conference win of the season continued to elude the John Brown Golden Eagles as they lost their homecoming match 3-1 against 8th-ranked Southern Nazarene (Okla.) Saturday. The Crimson Storm’s Daniel Agina tapped in a rebound less than five feet away from the goal line in the 4th minute, and the Golden Eagles never recovered.

Jeffrey Darkwah capitalized on another deflection by Golden Eagle sophomore goalkeeper Spencer Watson in the 39th minute, scoring from inside the penalty box to give Southern Nazarene a 2-0 halftime lead. Sophomore forward Theo Browne put John Brown (3-6-2, 0-5-1 SAC) on the board in the 58th minute, taking a pass across the goal box from senior midfielder Justin Cowell and booting it past Southern Nazarene goalkeeper David Eguren. Darkwah revisited the John Brown goal in the 83rd minute, however, launching a shot that was deflected into the net for an own goal by Golden Eagle junior defender Terry Andrew. That score erased all of John Brown’s ambitions for forcing overtime.

John Brown’s offense again struggled Saturday, managing only 5 shots-on-goal. Southern Nazarene (8-3-1, 5-1-0 SAC) had 9. Watson made 8 saves to Eguren’s 3, and Southern Nazarene attempted 5 corner kicks to John Brown’s 3.

The Golden Eagles host 14th-ranked Oklahoma City Tuesday at 3:00.
