Golden Eagles Grounded at Oklahoma Baptist

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 23, 2006) - A bus breakdown near Tulsa almost kept the John Brown Golden Eagles from making it to Shawnee, Okla., Saturday afternoon. Oklahoma Baptist’s defense kept them from scoring any goals when they got there. The Bison took a 1-0 win in Sooner Athletic Conference play on a goal by Sullivan Silva in the 77th minute.

Both teams attempted 7 shots on goal. Oklahoma Baptist goalkeeper Cristiano Costa made 7 saves, while John Brown’s Spencer Watson made 6. The difference was compliments of Silva, who scored unassisted by driving in from the left corner of the field and launching an 18-yard shot past Watson into the right corner of the net.

The loss dropped John Brown to 0-2-1 in conference play and 3-3-2 overall. Oklahoma Baptist is now tied with Science & Arts (Okla.) atop the SAC standings at 2-0-1, while posting a 3-2-1 overall record.

John Brown hosts Oklahoma Christian Tuesday at 4:00.
