Penalty Kick Costs Golden Eagles

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 13, 2006) - The John Brown Golden Eagles committed an early error Wednesday in their Sooner Athletic Conference opener, and the Oklahoma City Stars took full advantage. Ryan Trudgian hit a penalty kick for the Stars in just the 12th minute, and then both teams shut each other out for the remaining 78 minutes. John Brown’s offense rallied in the final ten minutes, launching four shots-on-goal, but all missed, and the Stars went on to win 1-0.

Goalkeepers Spencer Watson for John Brown and Dustin Nolan for Oklahoma City both played outstandingly. Nolan saved all six John Brown shots-on-goal, while Watson saved the five Oklahoma City attempts besides the penalty kick. John Brown’s final chance to equalize came on Akeem Grant’s shot, which went wide right, in the 89th minute.

John Brown (3-2-0, 0-1-0) will host Science & Arts (Okla.) at 4:00 on Saturday.
