JBU Freshens Web Site

Siloam Springs, Ark. (August 11, 2006) - John Brown University revealed its new face on the World Wide Web this week. Over the past year, JBU’s Web team has been working on updating the look of the university’s Web site (www.jbu.edu) and upgrading its technical structure.

“The sophistication of the redesign better reflects the university today,” Andrea Phillips, director of communications said. “Although our previous Web site had served us well, it hadn’t been significantly changed in almost four years. It was time to update the design, strengthen the structural programming, and add some new features to serve our Web audiences.”

Various offices across campus had input in the redesign project, including the Office of Admissions, the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies, the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations, and others. The result is a Web site that is a bit more user-friendly for the person needing information from those areas. For example, more admissions information is easily accessible from the main Web page. Those looking for a traditional undergraduate, a degree completion program, or a master’s degree will be able to find information with just a few clicks of their mouse.

Underneath the fresh design is an improved code structure utilizing the most of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) for the text and layout of the pages. This makes the site more user-friendly with search engines and makes downloads faster to computers. The programming also makes JBU’s Web site accessible on all popular internet browsers like Firefox, Safari, and the widely used, Internet Explorer.

“Increasing the use of CSS will improve the visitor’s experience and will ease the maintenance and customization of the many JBU Web pages that we manage.” Mark Stoner, JBU’s Webmaster said.

The next few months, the JBU web team will continue to make tweaks and adjustments. The university is planning on launching its new online community for alumni within the next month.

John Brown University is a private Christian university, ranked sixth by U.S. News & World Report in the Southern Region. JBU enrolls more than 1,900 students from 43 states and 40 countries. JBU is a member of Arkansas’ Independent Colleges and Universities and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
