Merling Trio to Perform at JBU

Cellist Bruce Uchimura, pianist Susan Wiersma Uchimura and violinist Renata Artman Knific are the members of the Merling Trio that will perform at JBU on Sunday, Feb. 26.

Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 21, 2006) - The Merling Trio, whose music is often described as rich and romantic, will perform at John Brown University’s Jones Recital Hall in the Cathedral of the Ozarks on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 3:00 p.m. and Watts School on Monday, Feb. 27. Admission to the concert on Sunday is free and open to the public.

A cello (Bruce Uchimura), piano (Susan Wiersma Uchimura) and violin (Renata Artman Knific) make the trio and debuted at a performance in 1993 at Carnegie Hall. The trio, made of Polish, Japanese and Dutch origins, is hailed as a “brilliantly distinguished group endowed with remarkable gifts of communication, magnificent precision, and an impeccable blend of sound.”

The trio is in residence at the School of Music at Western Michigan University, and are also faculty members at the prestigious ENCORE School for Strings.

Recent performances include: the Columbus (OH) Museum of Art, the Chamber Music Society of Charleston (WV) and the Texas Friends of Chamber Music Series.
