Business Team Advances to Semifinals

Siloam Springs, Ark. (April 19, 2005) - A business team from John Brown University, will present a business plan for their theoretical business, QuickFlicks, and compete with twelve other semifinalist teams in the Arkansas Governor’s Business Plan Competition this Friday, April 22 in Little Rock. Over fifty plans were submitted to the competition. Six teams will be selected for the final round, and the winners will be announced at an award luncheon on Friday, April 29. The competition is sponsored by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation and the Arkansas Capital Corporation Group. Last year, a team from JBU won the distinguished award for their business plan on organic beef called “Nature’s Beef.” “The Governor's Business Plan competition is a great opportunity for our business students to compete with the best and the brightest from among all the four-year institutions in Arkansas,” Dr. Delia Haak, associate professor of business and team advisor said. “JBU students have made it to the semifinal round each of the three years we have entered the competition. Making it this far in the competition is a testament of the students’ hard work, dedication and passion for excellence.” This year’s team is comprised of senior business administration majors Noel Perez, Silke Ramos, Chrissa Stone and senior international business major Hernan Reyes make up the JBU team. Noel Perez, Silke Ramos and Hernan Reyes are also Walton Scholars at JBU. “As a business student it’s a great opportunity to learn and to show others the high quality of business education that JBU offers,” Reyes, the marketing research manager for the team, said. QuickFlicks proposes to be a movie delivery service that provides a fast, convenient alternative approach to renting movies. Customers could simply go online or use the telephone to request whatever movie they want, and it will be delivered to their front door in less than two hours. The mission of QuickFlicks is to provide Movie Gallery with a superior service, an innovative solution that improves and satisfies customer needs, and provides owners and employees with meaningful work and advancement opportunities.
