Siloam Springs, Ark. (April 12, 2005) - Join the John Brown University Cathedral Choir in worship as they kick off their two-week tour to Northern Ireland in John Brown University’s Cathedral of the Ozarks on Tuesday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The choir is scheduled to give concerts and lead in united services of worship in Bangor, Portstewart, Antrim, Carryduff, and Ballynahinch, Northern Ireland this summer, May 12-26. “The freshness and enthusiasm of the JBU Cathedral Choir combined with the excellence of their singing has won the hearts of audiences here and also opened up many people to a class of music all too often limited to an esoteric fringe,” Hadden Wilson, the Northern Irish previous missionary-in-residence at JBU who is scheduling the choir’s itinerary, said. Fifty-three members of the sixty-person choir will be on the tour. They plan to sing “Praise the Lord,” “Sing a Mighty Song,” Exultate deo, Frohlocket, ihr Volker auf Erden, “Just As I Am,” “Prayer of the Children,” “It Is Well With My Soul,” and the concert would not be complete without “A Mighty Fortress.” “I went on the trip to Ireland two years ago and loved the experience,” senior music education major Jessica Naramore said. “The Irish people were incredibly receptive to us last time. When most people think of missions’ trips, the image of a choir does not seem to fit the bill.  I think the Cathedral Choir works hard to dispel this myth and to show that our first priority is to minister through song.” After a weekend on the North Coast of Ireland, the choir will be accommodated at Mullartown House on the shores of the Irish Sea and in the beautiful mountainous “Kingdom of Mourne.” John Brown University is a private Christian university, ranked eighth by U.S. News & World Report in the Southern Region. JBU enrolls more than 1,900 students from 43 states and 39 countries. JBU is a member of Arkansas’ Independent Colleges and Universities and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. ###
