Golden Eagles Unable to Hold On to Lead

Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 22, 2005) - The JBU women’s basketball team (10-7, 2-6 SAC) was in action Saturday evening in Siloam Springs against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. The USAO Drovers fought back from a 15 point deficit in the first half to come up with the 67-68 win.

Sparked by three early treys by Lesli Fanning, the Golden Eagles took a controlling lead for most of the first half. The Drovers cut the lead to seven going into the locker room with the score 34-27.

USAO’s Christina Brown made a three to start the second half, and the Drovers climbed into the lead at the 15 minute mark. The Golden Eagles kept it close, never letting their opponent to lead by more than five, and regaining the lead by three going into the home stretch. But two free throws by Christal Merriweather with 29 seconds on the clock clenched the one point win for the Drovers.

Junior Kendra McCormick led the point total for JBU with 18. Lesli Fanning threw in nine on 3/7 from behind the arc. USAO’s Christal Merriweather and Karole Roberts both had 18 to lead scoring for the Drovers.

The Golden Eagles are on the road for the next three games. They will be facing Oklahoma Baptist Monday at 6:00 p.m. Their next home game will be against Wayland Baptist on February 3rd at 6:00 p.m.
