JBU Gets Win Against Texas Wesleyan

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 11, 2004) - Siloam Springs, AR. Junior Shawn Wierick and Sophomore Joe Hirleman had their first goals of the season to lead the John Brown Golden Eagle’s soccer to a 3-1 win over Texas Wesleyan Saturday afternoon. The Rams started off the scoring when Junior Rene Mercado kicked in a goal at the 37 minute mark of the first half. Wierick scored off an assist by Junior Steven Aparicio to tie the game. In the second half, it was all Eagle scoring, with a goal from Junior Griff Hanning off an assist by Freshman Terry Andrew, and Hirleman’s goal off an assist by Junior Ryan Woolery. The JBU men are now 5-0 on the season.

Coach Gustavson was excited about the win. “This was a great win. Texas Wesleyan has a good reputation, so it was a good regional win. It was great to have Shawn and Joe getting their first goals of the season, too.”

The JBU men’s soccer will be hosting the Fall Classic next weekend. The Eagles will be playing the University of Illinois-Springfield on Friday at 3:00 pm, and the University of Mobile on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
