JBU Announces Tuition Costs for 2004-2005

Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 26, 2004) - The John Brown University Board of Trustees approved a 5.31 percent increase in the 2004-2005 tuition, fees, room and board rates. “As we do every year, we did our best to keep costs at a minimum,” Pat Gustavson, vice president for finance and administration said. “The increases in tuition, fees, room and board are driven by several factors including increased utility rates and increased service contracts.” Members of the Student Government Association discussed the concerns of the student body with the president’s cabinet before the proposed increase was presented to the board of trustees. “SGA has worked with the administration through the tuition increase process over the past few months,” SGA Officers said in an official statement. “The administration worked hard to meet the requests SGA brought on behalf of the student body. We are confident that students will continue to receive a quality education at a great value.” The approved tuition increase for 2004-2005 include a 4.96 percent tuition increase ($648), 10.94 percent fee increase ($70.00), and 5.31 percent room and board increase ($278). The total cost of tuition, fees, room and board is for the fall 2004 and spring 2005 semesters is $19,758. “When compared to other private Christian colleges, JBU is one of the best values,” President Lee Balzer said. “JBU provides a top-quality education for students at a competitive rate.” JBU has one of the lowest tuition rates among 81 institutions surveyed by the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) in 2003-2004. Funds from JBU’s endowment and gifts subsidize education costs for every undergraduate student, allowing JBU to offer lower tuition rates. John Brown University is a top-tier private university, ranked 11th by U.S. News & World Report in the Southern Region. JBU enrolls more than 1,800 students from 42 states and 42 countries. JBU is a member of Arkansas’ Independent Colleges and Universities and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
