Become an educator • Learn to teach mathematics • Impact the next generation
Learn how to teach the fundamentals of mathematics.
At JBU, we know that your desire to help others learn and grow comes from God. In the mathematics education major, you'll revisit foundational mathematical concepts and learn to successfully teach at a secondary education level. With on-campus model classrooms and exposure to real classrooms starting in your very first semester, you will graduate well-prepared to teach in a public or private school classroom.
Learn from experts
JBU's experienced mathematics faculty will aid students in how to educate and engage with their future students through practice, discussion and shadowing.
Gain experience
Students will have multiple opportunities even from their first semester to practice teaching on campus and in classrooms outside of JBU.
Teach globally
JBU is accredited so that students can transfer their teaching license easily across states and internationally.
What to expect as a mathematics education student at JBU

Shadow veteran teachers
Students spend a lot of time in clinical-style education with mentor teachers. Through observing and teaching alongside these teachers, JBU students become confident in their capabilities in areas such as classroom management and lesson planning.

Gain competence and skill
From the very first semester, students get to have an in-classroom experience. JBU students get the chance to practice teaching for more time than most students in other mathematics education programs. This creates great confidence, trust and respect in the student's mentor teachers, as well as future employers.

Teach abroad
JBU students can spend time studying in Lithuania, Guatemala, Honduras, Northern Ireland and various parts of the world. Not only does JBU equip students to be able to transfer their teaching license to go and teach other places, but gives them a chance to enhance their teaching education abroad before they even graduate
What can you do with a mathematics education degree?
JBU students will have multiple opportunities to explore the topics and fields they feel called to in order to better launch themselves upon graduation.
