Maintenance Technician/Construction Supervisor

Position Summary

The JBU Construction Management department is seeking a reliable and skilled Part-Time Maintenance Technician / Construction Supervisor to support general maintenance and equipment upkeep for a small fleet of construction equipment and tools. Examples of equipment include backhoe, personnel lift, forklift, equipment trailers, portable concrete mixers, generators, etc. The ideal candidate would also have experience with a range of construction skills and the ability to oversee small crews of construction management students as they perform student led projects.

This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in construction trades who can work independently, manage tools and equipment, perform a wide range of repair and maintenance tasks. This part-time position is 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters (32 weeks per year.)

Position Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, inspect, and service tools and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Troubleshoot and repair small equipment and jobsite tools.
  • Organize and manage inventory of tools, materials, and supplies.
  • Procure tools and project supplies as needed.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
  • Oversee students in light construction activities such as excavation, concrete placement, framing, roofing, and site cleanup.
  • Enforce safety procedures on student led projects.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience in construction, maintenance, or a related trade.
  • Strong working knowledge of common hand tools and power tools.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with tool and equipment maintenance is highly desirable.

Physical demands and work environment

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment: The noise level in the work environment may require ear protection.
