Position Summary

The Honors Scholars Program (HSP) at John Brown University is seeking a Program Coordinator & Advisor. The Program Coordinator & Advisor works with the Honors Director and Associate Director to cultivate the Honors community, informing prospective and current students about the opportunities and community in the program, as well as helping students navigate their college decisions. This is a part-time staff position (25-30 hours/week in conjunction with the spring and fall semesters).

The HSP exists to attract and retain intellectually curious students, to stimulate and challenge those students as Christian scholars and effective members of God's kingdom, and to enrich the broader university community. Currently there are approximately 225 students in the program.

Role Qualifications:

  • Strong ability to create good will with students, parents, staff, faculty, and administration; servant attitude.
  • Commitment to the Articles of Faith, Mission, and Objectives of the University; and desires to be a role model for students by demonstrating an active Christian faith in personal example and in work related responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Advising current and prospective Honors students.
  • Coordinating program events such as Sabbath gatherings, annual banquet, student workshops, service opportunities, site visits, and conferences.
  • Scheduling Honors courses.
  • Tracking student progress and managing program processes.
  • Coordinating with Admissions, the Registrar's Office, Events, and University Marketing, among other campus offices.
  • Advising the Honors Executive Council.
  • Assisting with promoting and coordinating study abroad and prestigious fellowship opportunities.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Commitment to working with a diverse population of students.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using various computer software and databases.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in higher education or a related field is preferred.

Education:

Bachelor's degree or higher.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; stand; sit; use hands; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.

The employee is expected to adhere to all University policies.
