Position Summary

Responsible for proper receipt of all University moneys and miscellaneous accounting tasks as assigned. Performs complex office work—document processing, record-keeping, account reconciliations, and report compilation. Handles tasks that require independent analysis and independent judgment. Has a detailed knowledge of JBU and/or department procedures related to cashiering. Demonstrates expertise for the following areas: cashier, organization, and customer service; is a team player.

Position Responsibilities

  • Sets goals and objectives and accomplishes them without need for frequent follow up.
  • Attends and/or supervises Cashier's window, receipting funds received at counter, by EFT, and through mail, balancing daily receipts and preparing bank deposits, preparing cash reports, and reconciling gifts with deposits.
  • Reconciles payment processors activity to General Ledger activity and bank batches
  • Student Accounts Services activities of meeting/communicating with students and other billing/collections tasks.
  • Maintains records for credit card payments, processes returned checks, and reconciles application fees, room reservation fees, and tuition deposits.
  • Maintains and reconciles vault cash, change bags, and cash drawers for counter
  • Assists, as necessary, with student accounts customer service, including customer service for payment questions from students, parents, and staff
  • Maintains departmental lists of the Accounting Codes/NARDs and communicates on those areas
  • Maintains and archives records for all receipt transactions
  • Prepares reconciliations for annual financial statement audit
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Two or more years of cashiering or bookkeeping experience.
  • Working knowledge of PC applications with computer software experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • 10-key proficient
  • Basic understanding of dual entry accounting.

Education

Minimum of High School Graduate or equivalent

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; stand; sit; use hands; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
