Position Summary

Serves as an assistant to the Director of Esports. JBU Esports competes in the ECAC, NECC and PlayVS. Provides assistance to the Director in recruiting, practices and training sessions, matches, facility management, event management, mentoring of students, streaming, social media platforms and administrative work. This is a graduate assistant position or part-time position with a combination of daytime, evening and weekend hours.

Position Responsibilities

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and appropriately with student-athletes, parents, officials, directors and captains of opposing teams, alumni, faculty, administrators, peers, community members, as well as recruits and their respective family members.
  • Assist in the creation, set-up and execution of special events for esports.
  • Assist Director by meeting with individual players and/or small groups regularly for mentoring and assistance, engaging our student-athletes in shared conversations about their spiritual development, integration of their faith and discipleship.
  • Assist in the scheduling of the esports facility for practices, matches, and special events.
  • Assist the Director of Esports in the recruitment and retention of highly skilled and academically-qualified student-athletes who desire a faith-based educational experience. Duties include off-campus recruitment trips during the day to regional high schools to meet regional coaches/sponsors and potential students, setting up on campus visits for prospective students, assisting with regular follow-up with recruits in database, and assist in identifying potential students from national databases.
  • Fulfill scheduled event management evenings and weekends responsibilities.
  • Assume primary responsibility for the security of all facilities used by the team when the Director is not present.
  • Complete training tutorials during the onboarding process.
  • Assist with the registration and other administrative work needed to participate in esports at the beginning of each semester.
  • Train and assist the students in the proper care of equipment and the facility.
  • Assist in maintaining all social media accounts and website details.
  • Assist with streaming matches.
  • Learn all the rules and regulations of the esport games and conference.
  • Be responsible for the conduct of student-athletes during practices, matches and events.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of community service opportunities.
  • Assist in any other duties, as assigned, by the Director.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated organizational skills, dependability, a love for working with college students and esports.
  • Above average technical skills and familiarity with PC and/or console games.
  • Good communication skills and administrative abilities.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree; applicant must gain acceptance to one of the graduate programs at John Brown University if pursuing the graduate assistant route.

Physical demands and work environment:

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to walk; stand; sit; use hands; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear. The employee must routinely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment: The noise level in the work environment can be excessive.
