Position Summary

The GA-A provides general administrative and faculty support to the DGC under the direction and supervision of the DGC Administrative Assistant (AA) and Department Chair (see Position Responsibilities below).

Eligible GA-A applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student in the DCG as a M.S. in Counseling major and maintain a GPA of 3.0 within the degree program. Applicants must be available to work 15 hours per week at a JBU campus location for a maximum of two-years.

A limited number of graduate assistantship (GA) positions are available within the DGC and are funded by scholarship money. This scholarship money, in combination with additional stipends from the DGC, will cover up to 18 credits per year of tuition in the GA’s degree program.

Position Responsibilities

  • Assists AA in reception services, both in person and tele/electronic.

  • Assists AA in paperwork, storage, and filing.

  • Assists AA in billing, fee collection, and financial transactions/reports.

  • Assists AA in course scheduling and degree planning.

  • Assists AA in event planning and travel arrangements.

  • Assists DGC faculty in performing research and other educational support services.

  • Assists AA in monitoring and purchasing supplies.

  • Assists and supports the AA and Department Chair in other duties as assigned.

  • Collaborates and cross-trains with other GAs.

  • Maintains professionalism when faced with dual relationships.

  • Sets objectives and accomplishes them without need for frequent follow-up.

  • Exhibits good customer service, hospitality, and communication.

  • Has an ability to remain calm and keep integrity under pressure.

  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule of at least 15 hours per week.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Graduate Assistantship position, applicants must be fully accepted to the Graduate Counseling Department, enrolled as a full-time student and must maintain a GPA of 3.0. Travel is required.

Current Openings

The DGC is seeking one (1) GA-A position in NWA from July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027. This position is potentially a two-year commitment, with the option for contract renewal after the first year. Applications and recommendations must be received electronically or postmarked by April 1, 2026.
