Family and Human Services

What activities were you involved in at JBU?

Study Abroad and Intramurals!

What are your favorite things to do in NWA?

Some might say I am slightly obsessed with coffee and NWA fortunately has several amazing coffee shops so I love trying new coffee shops here in NWA! My favorites are Onyx, Airship, Heroes Coffee, The Meteor, and Puritan Coffee Shop. I also love to thrift and NWA has some great thrift stores, so anytime I have free time, you will probably catch me at one of the thrift stores here. I also love doing anything outdoors, which NWA is the best place for that! I love hiking near the Buffalo River or kayaking at Beaver Lake!

What’s your favorite book?

My favorite book is probably Lord of the Flies by William Golding

What’s your favorite game?

My favorite games are Code Names and Skip-Bo! It is not very common, but I also love the game Quelf!

Describe your family?

I am the youngest of three daughters, so I have two older sisters, one brother-in-law, three nieces (two of them newborn twin girls!), and amazing parents. We are a very close-knit family and love hanging out together. Almost all of us live relatively close—one of my sisters and her family live here in NWA, my parents live just outside of NWA, and my oldest sister still lives in Texas. We have a few family traditions we enjoy from time to time, like Friday night pizza, pop, and movie nights, as well as Sunday snack nights. Together, we love coffee shop hopping, hiking, traveling, going to the beach, and watching movies!

What quick advice would you give an incoming JBU student?

College is a lot like life—you’ll get out of it what you put into it. Work hard in your classes and challenge yourself to grow academically. Step out and make new friends—chances are, they’re hoping someone will talk to them too! Invest deeply in your faith. Ask professors, staff, or friends to mentor you, disciple you, and walk alongside you in your faith journey. Say yes to opportunities: join a growth group, attend that club’s interest meeting, audition for the chapel band if you love music, or apply to be an RA. The truth is, there will always be a reason to put things off—but before you know it, graduation will be here. College goes by quickly, so be present, take risks, and step boldly into new experiences. I know it can seem scary, but one day you’ll look back and be grateful you pushed yourself to make the most of every moment in college!
