Blog post #1
Learning from each other
By: Carla Swearingen
Welcome to the inaugural blog post from the Office for Advancement of Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship. Our office exists to support JBU’s mission of providing Christ-centered education by helping faculty to grow intellectually, professionally, and spiritually as teacher-scholars. We hope that this blog promotes our mission as we strive to serve faculty well.
A prayer that I have been meditating on this week is adapted from Colossians 1:9-11, “Father, may You fill me up with the knowledge of Your will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that I may live a life worthy of You and please You in every way; bearing fruit in every good work and growing in Your grace, strengthened with all power according to Your glorious might, so that I may have great endurance and patience with joy.” As faculty at JBU, this is what we desire—to be lifelong learners of Him and for Him, and bear fruit in our work with students. One of the blessings of being in a community like this is that we have opportunities to hear from God through the work and ministry of our peers, and we hope that our blog will serve as a conduit for you to hear those voices in a new forum.
I pray that this blog encourages you to have endurance and patience in your work with students and in our lives together, and that each of you would find joy in the work that God has given you to do.
