Traditional Undergraduate Commencement

Schedule of Events & Details

If the weather cooperates and commencement is at the Siloam Springs High School football stadium, there will not be a restriction on the number of family members attending. You can invite as many family members as you want to the outside ceremony. We believe the stadium capacity and outside venue alleviate much of the safety concerns. (Attendance is still restricted to family members, and we ask for family units to distance themselves appropriately from other family units.) We ask that attendees wear a mask into the stadium until they find their seats, and then they can remove their mask. We will make a weather call a day or two before commencement and only move the ceremony from the stadium if there is a prediction of heavy rain and lightning.

If weather necessitates a move to a multi-service, multi-venue commencement, each graduate is limited to 6 family members (up from the previous four). You will receive your tickets via campus mail the week of commencement. The tickets will designate the time and location of your rain plan ceremony, which is also detailed below. Please note that with six family members in attendance, physical distancing will be closer to three feet. We will require masks at all times for the audience if we have to move inside. If attendees are uncomfortable with this arrangement, they are welcome to watch the Livestream on YouTube.

More details about where graduates will check-in, mask requirements, etc., will come from the registrar’s office in the coming weeks.

If any of your family members have particular accessibility needs, email Jarrod Heathcote

JBU is changing our policy and allowing graduates to add positive, celebratory personalization to the top of their mortarboard as long as it follows these guidelines. If you have questions after reading the guidelines, please email If you arrive at commencement with a cap outside the guidelines, we will give you a blank replacement cap for the ceremony.

The Office of Alumni & Parent Engagement is hosting a reception for graduates and their families on Friday, May 21, at 4 p.m. on the Quad. (Rain plan SGH B.) Please stop by for some light refreshments and to pick up your senior gift. (No RSVP or tickets required.)

This year we are combining senior awards and baccalaureate into a 60-minute service Friday, May 21 at 5 p.m. (We realize award winners have been notified of a couple of time changes, but this is the last and most recent update.) The ceremony will be in the Cathedral of the Ozarks so that our seniors have one last time to worship together in the Cathedral. Attendees must wear masks.

Each graduate is limited to bringing two family members (no exceptions), and tickets are required for the graduate and both guests. Seating will be arranged in groups of 3, so you may not give unneeded tickets to another graduate. Please be advised that this arrangement will change the physical distancing between family groups to approximately 3 feet. If you are uncomfortable with these protocols, we invite you to watch the Livestream. Doors open at 4 p.m.

We will distribute tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. Please request tickets here. (Tickets will go to you via campus mail.)

We will have an additional viewing area (also 3-foot distancing and masks required) in SGH A & C. This venue will also need tickets, with a maximum of two tickets per graduate, requested at the link above

If you have a double major, and your two programs are listed in separate locations or ceremonies, please email to see which location/ceremony you are assigned.
