Shawnee, Okla. (February 28, 2008) - It’s been almost two months since the John Brown men’s basketball team has smelled victory. However, after a fourteen game losing skid the JBU men found the win column on Thursday night defeating St. Gregory’s (Okla.) 61-60 on the road.
“It feels so good to get a win,” said head coach Clark Sheehy. “With all the adversity we’ve been through this season, I’m so proud that my guys didn’t quit.”
JBU, who’s been hampered with injuries throughout the season, returned the favor to a St. Gregory’s team who defeated them earlier in the season 68-64 in overtime.
Although the Golden Eagles found themselves down five, 25-30 at halftime, the team remained composed and managed to outscore the Cavaliers 36-30 in the second half to secure the one-point win.
“We had a few things go our way tonight,” said Sheehy. “We made a few stops and hit our free throws down the stretch.”
Junior guard Jarrett McGriff paced JBU (10-19, 3-18) with 16 points and six rebounds. Junior forward Cody Page added 14 after nailing 4-of-6 from downtown, and post men Davaughn Jackson and Wes Brown had nine each to go along with seven and three rebounds respectively.
Patrick Jones had a game high 28 points after going 12-of-17 from the floor for SGU (9-19, 7-14).
JBU returns home this Saturday to close out the regular season against Oklahoma Baptist at 3 p.m.
