Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 7, 2004) - The JBU Men’s basketball team was on the road this weekend for the Southwest Assemblies of God Classic in Waxahachie, Texas. The Eagles won their first game Friday night but were unable to come up with the win Saturday night, moving JBU’s season record to 2-1.
Friday night the men took on the host team, Southwest Assemblies of God, and came away with a 76-52 win. JBU got off to a quick start, scoring 45 points in the first half and holding their opponent to 18. Junior Brandon Cole led the scoring for the Eagles with 17 points and went 4 for 5 from behind the arc. Senior Reyjavick De Gracia came away with a double double scoring 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. As a team, John Brown shot 49% from the field and 62% from 3 point land. The leading scorer for SAGU was Jason Johnson with 20.
JBU faced Houston Baptist on Saturday night, a team which JBU upset last March in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament. Unfortunately, JBU was unable to repeat the performance, falling to HBU 89-82. Cole was again the leading scorer with 28 points, going 8 for 15 on 3 pointers. Freshmen Steve Briggs and Joel Tesis both contributed 12 points for the Eagles. Houston Baptist had four players in double figures and was at 69% from the 3 point line, making them too much for JBU to overcome.
The Golden Eagles will be home again Tuesday night against Lyon College at 8:00 p.m. The JBU women will also be opening their home season Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
