Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 24, 2004) - In their last home meet of the season, the combined men and women’s swim team of John Brown University defeated the combined teams from Rhodes College 886-457 on Saturday afternoon in Siloam Springs. The Golden Eagle swim teams won 16 of the 26 events contested, highlighted by NAIA national qualifying times in the men’s 400 yard Medley Relay, the women’s 400 yard Individual Medley, and the women’s 100 yard Backstroke. Swimming on the winning men’s 400-yard Medley relay were Luke Williams, Dusty Woodson, Josh Hughes and Nik Hook who combined for the qualifying time of 3:57.16. Jenny Brown, in her 400 yard Individual Medley, swam to a winning and qualifying time of 5:06.74 and also won the 100 yard Backstroke in a qualifying time of 1:06.28.
Other individual women JBU winners were Rose Mariah in the 200-yard Freestyle in 2:11.34, Lindsey Smith in the 50 yard Freestyle at 25.39 and the 100 yard Butterfly with a time of 1:02.24, Kathleen Kubricht with a time of 59.18 in the 100 yard Freestyle and Stephanie Burrell in the 100 yard Breaststroke in 1:13.75. Two JBU women’s relay teams were victorious. The 400 yard Medley Relay team of Smith, Burrell, Kubricht, and Sara Becker swam to a winning time of 4:29.59 and the 800 yard Freestyle Relay team of Brown, Rose, Canda Cottrill and Becca Camfield won in a time of 9:01.31.
Individual winners with times that did not qualify for the national meet on the men’s side were Hook in the 400 yard Individual Medley in a time of 4:44.29, Brandon Jeffries in one-meter diving with 230.50 points and 3-meter diving with 165.55, Dusty Woodson with 1:06.18 in the 100 yard Breaststroke and Luke Williams in the 100 yard Freestyle in 51.67. The 800-yard Freestyle Relay team of Williams, Hook, Hughes and Marshall Gooding took first place in 8:00.73.
“This was a good way to end the home season,” said JBU Coach Brandi Harris after the meet. “To get some new qualifiers and to win the meet before such a good crown was great for our swimmers and divers.”
